Founded Projects
Discover our projects and their Real-World Applications
ISGroup participates in funded research projects and interdisciplinary initiatives across machine learning, artificial intelligence, data-centric systems, and decision-support applications. This page highlights current and recent projects together with a selection of past initiatives that have contributed to the group’s research trajectory.
Ongoing Projects

Funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme, 2023-2027
WASABI
The WASABI vision is that digital assistance and conversational AI become standard practices to reach sustainability goals in manufacturing. Humans will use it, for instance, to identify and assess opportunities to turn waste into a resource, and to reorganize work to minimize carbon footprints.
Featured Projects
HybridAI
Funded by Expert.ai, 2022–2024
The objective of the project is to study neuro-symbolic techniques, here called HybridAI, aiming to improve the state of the art in Natural Language Understanding and Knowledge Graph enrichment.

Work Datafication and Behavioral Visibility in the Digital Workplace
An Interdisciplinary Fondo Ateneo per la Ricerca (FAR) Project, 2022–2023
The research, conducted in collaboration with engineers and business economists, explores the analytical potential of the data flows generated by employees on Enterprise Collaboration Software for the innovation of Human Resource Management.
Assessment of well-being state in Post-acute COVID Syndrome
Funded by Gilead Sciences, Inc, 2022-2023
The project addresses Post-acute COVID syndrome through machine learning and clinical data analysis, with the goal of characterizing patient phenotypes and generating a data-driven intrinsic capacity index related to frailty, resilience, and quality of life.

Resource Grants
Research infrastructure, facilities, and computational resources
ISGroup has also benefited from competitive access to high-performance computing resources through Italian national research infrastructures. In particular, the team has been awarded computing power on CINECA systems, including Leonardo, supporting large-scale experimentation in machine learning, optimization, and data-intensive research.
These resources have enabled the group to run computationally demanding experiments, scale model development and evaluation, and support research activities requiring advanced processing capabilities.
Projects Archive
SocialGQ
Fondo Ateneo per la Ricerca (FAR) Project
2016–2018
The research concerned the development of innovative techniques for effective and efficient querying of social graph data by combining user-aware, textual, and semantic components.
FIRST
EU Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie RISE programme
2017–2022
The project developed technologies and methodologies to describe manufacturing assets, compose collaborative virtual manufacturing processes, and manage their evolution over time.
Framing Employee Attitudes and Digital Work Behaviors
Interdisciplinary Fondo Ateneo per la Ricerca (FAR) Project
2018–2020
This project explored how digital traces generated by employees on company platforms can support analytics-based people management and improve the understanding of work behaviors.
Machine Learning to Operationalize WG definition and Generate a Personalized Phenotypic Characterization in PLWHIV
Funded by Gilead Sciences, Inc.
2021
The project studies lipodystrophy in people living with HIV through machine learning, with the aim of modeling weight dynamics, defining plausible causal explanations, and predicting clinically meaningful downstream events.
CLASS
European H2020 Funded Project
2018–2020
The project developed a software architecture framework to help big data developers distribute analytics workloads along the compute continuum, from edge to cloud, while providing real-time guarantees.
